Accuracy of Using a New Semi-Automated Software Package to Diagnose Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures in Adults

We evaluate the accuracy of a semi-automated software package for annotating landmark points on vertebral body outlines in dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) images adults. The aim study was to determine with which non-expert radiographer could use annotate vertebrae support osteoporotic fracture diagnosis and grading. In this study, 71 GE Lunar iDXA assessment (VFA) were used. Annotations performed by four observers. consisted 33 each vertebra between T4 L4 inclusive; 11 upper end-plate, 8 anterior side, lower 3 pedicle (429 image). There total 19 (26%) cases made level assignment errors. All them one too high (with L1 identified as T12). Their median error annotation 1.05 mm, comparable 0.8 mm achieved expert radiographers. Normative mean heights vary approximately 22 at 36 females. Mild, moderate, severe fragility fractures are defined through height reductions 20%, 25%, 40%, respectively.
